No-Party Candidate · Iowa House District 61

Lucas Hewitt

Committed to YOU, not a party.

Your representative should support what's good for you, without pressure from partisan leadership.

Lucas Hewitt

Not what I'll fight for.
How I'll govern.

I believe neither party has a monopoly on good ideas. These are my commitments to you — not policy promises I can't keep, but governing principles I can.

1
Nonpartisan Decision-Making
I believe neither party has a monopoly on good ideas, so I will consider any proposal that's good for Waterloo — no matter what side it comes from.
2
Transparent Communication
I promise to post the reasoning behind all my votes and decisions so you can keep me accountable and ensure I truly represent you.
3
Responsive Representation
No one should fall through the cracks. I will read your messages and respond to each of them personally.
Why no specific policy promises?
Because a single legislator can't guarantee policy outcomes — that's a reality most candidates ignore. What I can promise is my process: independent judgment, transparent reasoning, and no caucus ordering my votes. That's a commitment I can actually keep.
Lucas Hewitt

Rooted in Iowa.

Lucas and wife

Born and raised in Waterloo, I am the son of a retired Waterloo police officer and retired Iowa Department of Corrections probation officer. Naturally, I grew up with a strong sense of right and wrong — but what makes my upbringing special was the constant emphasis on not judging others and considering things from others' points of view.

I went to Kittrell, Hoover, and West High before attending UNI and Iowa. During that time, I detasseled, worked at Fareway as a courtesy clerk, and drove Cambus at Iowa. After graduating with a degree in linguistics, I worked in Christian ministry for several years. I now work full-time as an enterprise application developer.

Lucas' children

My wife and I have been married for 12 years and have three kids — along with two dogs and three cats. If that doesn't sound crazy enough, we've also started fostering animals with the Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Throughout my life, my friends, classmates, and coworkers have been from many different walks of life and worldviews — so I know that listening to one another and working together despite differences is essential to a healthy community. That's how I want to serve and represent you.
